Hi, I'm the one tinkering here
I'm building a local, private AI hub — something an individual or a family can actually own, running on a small machine in a quiet corner of the house. No cloud holding the keys. Just our data, our rules, and an assistant that lives at home.
This blog is where I think out loud about it.
A little about me
- I'm a father of two boys, a husband, and a son.
- By day, I'm a principal group engineering manager at Microsoft (14+ years and counting).
- I hold a PhD, and I've spent years contributing to stereoscopic video and the 3D vision community.
- I'm a gamer and an unrepentant hardware enthusiast.
- I build robots — a rover, a spider bot, an autonomous car, and a steady pile of other machines.
- And underneath all of that, I'm a builder. I love making things, and I love sharing what I learn along the way.
The bench it all runs on
I won't pretend I don't enjoy the hardware. My workstation is an RTX 6000 Pro paired with a Ryzen 9 9950X and 192GB of ECC memory, kept cool by a custom dual-D5 hard-line water loop I plumbed myself. Next to it, two DGX Sparks hum along as a 24/7 AI lab.
Is it overkill for a family assistant? Probably. But it means I can break things fast, train and tinker without asking the cloud for permission, and keep every byte at home. :)
Beyond the keyboard
When I step away from the bench, I'm usually hiking, swimming, or chasing down great food — and just as often making it myself, smoke and barbecue included.
Why this exists
Mostly, it's a place to practice. Real engineering principles, applied to a real system I care about, with my own family as the first users. There's no better teacher than something you have to live with every day.
Maybe one day Homie grows into a startup. But right now it's my wonderland — a space to build, to break things, to learn, and to write it all down.

我在做一个本地、私有的 AI 中枢——一个个人、一个家庭真正能"拥有"的东西。它跑在家里某个安静角落的一台小机器上，钥匙不在云端手里。数据是我们自己的，规则是我们自己定的，而这个助手，就住在家里。
这个博客，是我把这些念头摊开来、一边想一边写的地方。
关于我
- 两个男孩的爸爸，妻子的丈夫，也是父母的儿子。
- 白天，我在微软做首席工程经理（Principal Group Engineering Manager），算下来已有十四年有余。
- 念过博士，也在立体视频和 3D 视觉这个圈子里耕耘了多年。
- 是个游戏玩家，也是个死不悔改的硬件发烧友。
- 喜欢造机器人——漫游车、蜘蛛机器人、自动驾驶小车，还有一摞又一摞别的机器。
- 但归根到底，我就是个爱"造东西"的人。喜欢动手，也喜欢把一路上学到的东西讲出来、写下来。
这一切跑在什么台子上
硬件这件事，我就不假装自己不享受了。主力工作站是一块 RTX 6000 Pro，配 Ryzen 9 9950X 和 192GB ECC 内存，散热是我亲手布的双 D5 硬管水冷。旁边还有两台 DGX Spark 日夜嗡嗡作响，凑成一个全天候的 AI 实验室。
给一个家庭助手用，是不是太奢侈了？大概吧。但好处实打实：我能放开手脚去折腾，弄坏了立刻重来，训练、调试都不必看云端的脸色，而每一个字节都老老实实留在家里。:)
键盘之外
从台子前起身，我多半是在徒步、游泳，或是四处寻好吃的——而且常常自己下厨，连烟熏带烧烤一起上。
为什么会有这么个东西
说到底，这是一块练手的地方：把真正的工程原则，用在一个我真心在意的系统上，而第一批用户，就是我自己的家人。再没有比"每天都得和它朝夕相处"更严厉的老师了。
也许有一天，Homie 会长成一家创业公司。但眼下，它是我的一方天地——任我去造、去拆、去学，再把这一切一笔一笔记下来。
